Halloween special: The Bat - my personal logo & branding story

Today, I am sharing something very special to me - my personal logo design. Created in early 2009, this logo has been with me for over 15 years.

Why a bat as my personal logo? In the early days of my graphic design career, I mostly worked at night (something that still happens), and all of my clients were in the clubbing industry. Naturally, this connection to nightlife led me to name my first studio Nocturnal, and a bat felt like the perfect symbol.

By 2011, I had shifted focus towards an independent career, letting go of the wordmark and keeping only the bat symbol as my visual identity. Since then, I've explored and used many variations of it, embracing the concept of dynamic logos - designs that maintain the core elements and structure while allowing for unique interpretations, as long as the result remains recognizable and true to the original source. In the images, you will see how it started, evolved, and even the grid rework I did some years ago.

Over time, I grew fascinated with these mysterious creatures - their role, symbolism and unique qualities. My respect and connection deepened after I had the chance to rescue three of these little furies on separate occasions.

What better occasion to share a bat-themed logo and identity than Halloween? 🎃

Happy Halloween, dear friends!
